Appointments
How to make an Appointment
The surgery employs a policy of easy patient access to appointments and works to maintain access to a clinician within 24 hours or to any doctor within 48 hours. We provide a choice of different ways of consulting with a clinician and can offer doctor and nurse appointments at least four weeks in advance.
You may book any of the appointment types listed below by:
- Online via Patient Access (formally EMIS Access)*
- Telephone (0118) 9732678
- In Person at our reception desk.
*When registering for Appointments Online, you will need to obtain a PIN and an Access ID from the Practice. Please ask at Reception for more details.
It is better to book your appointment at least a day in advance.
Why does the receptionist ask what is wrong with me?
Ten Minute Appointments
Patients are booked to see the doctor at 10 minute intervals. Please bear this in mind when making the appointment.
If you have a large number of problems to deal with, please discuss with the doctor whether you should come back for a further appointment at a different time.

Face to Face Consultations
These appointments are at 10 minute intervals during the doctors’ surgeries or minor illness nurse clinics and are booked in advance. On occasion, due to high patient demand or because of doctor annual leave, it may not be possible to book with your own GP. In this instance you will be offered an appointment with another clinician or doctor. We ask that you only book with another GP if your appointment is urgent. Best practice is to have continuity of care with your own GP.
Telephone Consultations
We offer telephone consultations with our GP’s and nurses thus offering convenience to the patient. These appointments are at 10 minute intervals during the doctors’ surgeries or minor illness nurse clinics and are booked in advance. The clinician will call during the day agreed, we cannot give a set time, so please ensure you are available on the telephone number you gave when you booked.
Home Visits
The doctors and paramedic practitioner provide home visits during core hours for patients who are confined to bed or unable to attend the surgery due to illness or infirmity.
You should telephone before 10:30am if possible.
Triage
A doctor will call you to discuss your medical situation and if the doctor decides it appropriate, you will be offered an appointment to attend the surgery later in the day.
Please understand these appointments are released strictly at the doctors’ discretion based on their expert opinion of a patient’s immediate health need.
Please be aware that the receptionist will ask the reason for your request to pass onto the doctor.
Paramedic Practitioner and Nurse Appointments
Our paramedic is trained to advise and treat children over 1 year of age and adult patients who have common minor ailment.
Our team of specialist practice nurses provide appointments for patients who require chronic disease reviews. These specialised appointments include asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), diabetes, hypertension and ischaemic heart disease (IHD), cervical smears and contraception.
